•$87,100 - $157,450

About The Position

Leidos is seeking a senior Test Engineer (Level 3) to serve as a lead member of a team supporting the SkyLine-X KN-2 program. The role leads verification, validation, and qualification of advanced systems, focusing on testing methodologies and systems integration to evaluate Air Traffic Control (ATC) modernization initiatives. The engineer designs, implements, and maintains test frameworks and procedures aligned with systems assurance, safety, and performance standards. The team uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to enhance testing. The role provides technical leadership for systems and software integration in Development Test (DT) and Formal Test execution. It involves integrating complex systems, debugging system-level issues, deriving test approaches and procedures from system requirements, conducting root-cause analysis, and maintaining test artifacts and documentation. The engineer collaborates with software, systems engineering, and integration/logistics teams, communicates status to internal and customer stakeholders, and supports test readiness reviews and system qualification events. Participation in Agile team activities is expected. Overtime, off-hours, weekend work, and travel may be necessary to meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 8+ years of professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of test automation, including automated test frameworks and scripts such as Squish, Selenium, PyTest, or Robot Framework, to run repeatable tests.
  • Demonstrated experience in testing, test framework development, and system-level verification of complex or safety-critical systems.
  • Systems Engineering experience, including experience gathering user requirements and converting them into system requirements on complex projects.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages.
  • Experience with Linux or Unix-based environments, containerization such as Docker or Podman, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Technical leadership experience requiring significant coordination across multiple functional areas, such as Software, Hardware, and Systems Engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience working directly with customers to discuss requirements and objectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • General familiarity with integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support regression coverage.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted testing approaches, such as using AI to assist with test-case generation or flag anomalies in results, and Claude Code.
  • Familiarity with requirement decomposition to develop A-Level test approaches and procedures.
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian Tool Suite and JIRA.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and system integration V&V processes.
  • Knowledge of microservices architectures, message brokers, RESTful API testing, and Chaos Testing principles.
  • Knowledge of test tools such as Selenium, Sikuli, or Squish, and simulation or test-harness frameworks.
  • Familiarity with NextGen Air Traffic Control modernization programs.
  • Experience preparing and executing Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM) and Test Readiness Review (TRR) documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead for systems and software integration supporting Development Test (DT) and Formal Test execution on the SkyLine-X KN-2 program.
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of test frameworks for verification and validation of complex, safety-critical systems.
  • Integrate complex systems and software with minimal oversight, debug system-level issues, and provide detailed supporting data on identified issues.
  • Develop and maintain test approaches and procedures derived from system-level requirements (A-Level, SSS), including system- and component-level test procedures, test cases, and data sets.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and defect resolution in coordination with software and systems engineering teams.
  • Execute integration testing of distributed, safety-critical systems using containerized or virtualized environments, and manage virtual machines and development containers.
  • Develop and maintain test artifacts and documentation, including the Verification Requirements Test Matrix (VRTM), traceability matrices, and test reports.
  • Interface with SkyLine-X KN-2 software, systems engineering, and integration/logistics teams in support of installation and integration efforts.
  • Communicate and prepare briefings to report status to internal and customer stakeholders, and support test readiness reviews and system qualification events.
  • Participate in daily stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Release Planning, and other Agile team activities.
  • Work overtime, off hours, or weekends if necessary to meet deadlines, and support travel.
