About The Position

The Lead Systems Engineering Architect is the authoritative technical architecture lead for a hybrid enterprise supporting the Department of Defense and the Air Force’s cyber defense mission. The role designs, governs, and maintains the hybrid enterprise architecture, defining physical and logical boundaries, data flows, and cloud-to-on-premises networking, including VPN and ExpressRoute. It conducts independent Analysis of Alternatives (AoA), integrating technology assessments, costs, and trade-offs, and maintains the enterprise architecture artifact repository in alignment with Department of War strategic directives such as the Joint Cyber Warfighting Architecture (JCWA). The role owns the digital-twin discipline by developing, governing, and maintaining authoritative digital models of the large DoW Defensive Cyber hybrid enterprise architecture using MBSE languages such as SysML. Models must accurately represent physical, logical, and security boundaries and remain interoperable with JCWA. The engineer updates enterprise models using deployment feedback and configuration audits so the MBSE repository remains synchronized with real-world changes. The position requires advanced MBSE and SysML proficiency, enterprise architecture framework knowledge such as DoWAF, and experience with multi-domain hybrid cloud and on-premises network design. The architect leads AoAs, authors cost-benefit analyses, and supports ERB, ARB, and CCB governance boards with technical justifications and architecture artifacts. Daily SCIF access is required for engagement with classified architecture baselines and JCWA integration data. The role supports authoritative enterprise architecture governance tied to JCWA and Zero Trust alignment through MBSE and digital-twin traceability. This is an onsite position in the San Antonio, Texas region, with work locations listed at Lackland AFB and San Antonio. Scheduled hours are 40 per week, with 10–25% travel required. The likely salary range is $169,604–$229,464, with compensation dependent on experience, location, and possibly contractual requirements.
