About The Position

Airbus U.S. Space & Defense is seeking an Engineering Fellow to provide technical leadership for flight software projects supporting satellite programs and the development of new satellite and aerospace systems. The position supports program execution throughout the project lifecycle, including requirements and architecture development, trade studies, specifications, verification, compliance assessment, troubleshooting, and operations. The Fellow leads program design reviews and supports configuration management, engineering review boards, model-based systems engineering, technical planning, system integration, and risk and opportunity management. The role also contributes to Airbus U.S.'s technical growth by mentoring junior staff, developing processes and procedures, and strengthening engineering rigor. As an industry expert in aerospace software product development, delivery, and/or operations, the Fellow provides technical leadership and project or team management support for complex assignments under the leadership of the Director of Systems Engineering and Program Managers, with program and subject-matter responsibility and authority. The position leads the software development product roadmap, including technology insertion and schedule and cost targets aligned with future business pursuits, and supports defining software customization processes for customer missions. It also performs systems engineering activities to build, maintain, and evolve spacecraft products, and promotes reuse of heritage platform designs and manufacturing infrastructure. The role is fully remote for candidates across the United States, with preferred locations in Arlington, Virginia; Denver, Colorado; or Merritt Island, Florida. Periodic travel to Airbus U.S. facilities or partner companies is less than 20%, with occasional international travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterparts.

  • Proven experience with aerospace software systems across conceptual design and tradeoffs, detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, testing, deployment, and mission operations.
  • Subject-matter expertise in several aspects of flight software program execution, such as requirements development, code development, spacecraft simulators, configuration management, automated testing, flight operations, mission CONOPS, or user interfaces.
  • Experience with software systems architecture, including hardware abstraction and platform, core services or middleware, and application layers.
  • Experience leading or performing analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, and software technical budgets.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely across multiple organizational levels.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a multifunctional, multicultural, fast-moving, and technically complex environment.
  • Flexible attitude and strong initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Periodic travel to Airbus U.S. facilities or partner companies (less than 20%) and occasional international travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterparts.
