About The Position

Humana is seeking a Lead Solutions Architect to lead enterprise architecture strategy and solution delivery for healthcare technology initiatives. The role defines target-state architectures, governs solution designs, enables complex integrations, and supports adoption of cloud, data, and AI capabilities. The architect translates business objectives into scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions in partnership with business leaders, product and engineering teams, security, compliance, and enterprise architecture stakeholders. The position provides architecture leadership for CenterWell programs and platforms, shaping conceptual and reference architectures and aligning delivery teams with cloud and data strategies. Its scope includes high-priority initiatives and interoperability and provider-data integrations spanning CenterWell and Humana Insurance. The role sits within CenterWell IT – Cross-CenterWell Architecture and collaborates with product, engineering, EA Activation, security, data, and operations, as well as governance forums, to enable Integrated Health. The architect owns end-to-end architecture for Home Health initiatives; develops and stewards reference architectures for data platforms, clinical-document NLP, RPA/automation, and interoperability; and leads architecture checkpoints and risk reviews. The role defines integration contracts and domain boundaries for provider data, EMR, and Snowflake, Databricks, and Azure data platforms, while addressing observability, lineage, and data protection. It also enables delivery through executable architectural runways and measurable non-functional requirements. The role requires healthcare architecture experience in regulated environments, hands-on cloud and data-platform architecture, and demonstrated expertise delivering generative and agentic AI across Google Cloud, Azure, and AWS. AI capabilities include production-grade RAG, fine-tuning, prompt and knowledge management, secure data integrations, agent orchestration, enterprise guardrails, and MLOps/LLMOps. This is a remote position; occasional travel to Humana offices for training or meetings may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of progressive information technology experience directly related to architecture or engineering, information security, or another specialized technology field.
  • At least 5 years of solution architecture experience with healthcare delivery or payer/provider ecosystems, including proven delivery in regulated environments involving HIPAA/PHI.
  • Hands-on architecture experience across Azure services and Snowflake or Databricks, including data lake/data platform patterns, data sharing, identity and access, and vault/secrets management.
  • Demonstrated leadership producing reference architectures and governing solution designs across multiple teams.
  • Strong competency in APIs, event-driven integration, security models, and non-functional requirements such as availability, performance, and resilience.
  • Hands-on experience delivering generative and agentic AI on Google Cloud, Azure, and AWS, using services such as Vertex AI, Azure OpenAI, and Amazon Bedrock.
  • Experience implementing production-grade AI capabilities including RAG, fine-tuning, prompt and knowledge management, and secure data integrations.
  • Depth in agent orchestration, including tools/function calling, planning, memory, and multi-agent collaboration.
  • Experience with enterprise AI guardrails for security, compliance, and responsible AI.
  • Robust MLOps/LLMOps experience for observability, evaluation, and cost/performance optimization.
  • Ability to integrate AI systems with event-driven microservices, vector databases or feature stores, and CI/CD pipelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Agent orchestration experience with planning and tool/function calling.
  • Long- and short-term memory and context management.
  • Multi-agent collaboration and role assignment.
  • Human-in-the-loop review and override workflows.
  • Safety guardrails, policy enforcement, and governance.
  • Telemetry experience including tracing, evaluation, and A/B testing.
  • Reliability techniques including retries, fallbacks, and deterministic handoffs.
  • Tool ecosystem integration, including APIs and MCPs.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end solution architecture for Home Health initiatives, translating business outcomes into composable designs across systems of experience, operations, and insight.
  • Author and maintain reference architectures for data platforms, clinical-document NLP, RPA/automation, and interoperability patterns, and steward pattern reuse across CenterWell when applicable.
  • Lead architecture checkpoints and risk reviews, ensure designs comply with enterprise guardrails and privacy and security requirements, and participate in governance forums such as ARB, TRB, and MOR.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to turn conceptual designs into executable architectural runways and de-risk delivery through measurable non-functional requirements.
  • Define integration contracts and domain boundaries for provider data, EMR, and Snowflake, Databricks, and Azure data platforms; ensure observability, lineage, and data protection.
  • Collaborate with CenterWell leaders, EA Activation, security, and segment CIO teams, and communicate architecture decisions to executives and delivery teams.
  • Conduct structured knowledge transfer with existing architects and stakeholders to capture in-flight designs and decisions.
  • Review current initiatives and establish an architectural roadmap aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Develop or refine reference architectures and design patterns for core platforms and solutions.
  • Collaborate with governance and compliance teams to validate designs against enterprise standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Define integration strategies and solution blueprints for key systems and data flows.
  • Establish architecture review processes and decision forums to support delivery readiness and quality assurance.
  • Lead cross-cloud AI architecture patterns and integrate AI systems with event-driven microservices, vector databases or feature stores, and CI/CD pipelines.
