About The Position

The Lead SMT Operator is responsible for overseeing and performing the operation, setup, and maintenance of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment to ensure efficient and high-quality production of electronic assemblies. This role involves guiding and training junior operators, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree in electronics or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience operating and maintaining SMT equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a production setting.
Strong understanding of SMT processes, components, and industry best practices.
Proficiency in setting up, programming, and operating various SMT machines (e.g., Fuji, Mycronic, Juki, Panasonic).
Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including schematics and assembly drawings.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to SMT equipment and processes.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and mentor others.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Basic computer skills for data entry and machine interface.
Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds as needed.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of IPC-A-610 standards is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise a team of SMT Operators, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
Perform complex setups, changeovers, and programming adjustments on SMT placement machines, solder paste printers, and reflow ovens.
Operate and monitor SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to production schedules.
Conduct first-article inspections and in-process quality checks to identify and correct defects, ensuring product quality and compliance with specifications.
Troubleshoot and resolve SMT equipment malfunctions, performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and bill of materials (BOMs).
Maintain accurate production records, including process parameters, quality data, and equipment logs.
Collaborate with engineering and quality control teams to optimize SMT processes and resolve production issues.
Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Assist in the training and development of new SMT operators.
Implement and support continuous improvement initiatives for SMT operations.
