Stanley Martin Homes•Reston, VA
•$191,700 - $212,600

About The Position

The Senior Cloud Platform Engineer leads modernization of Stanley Martin Homes’ cloud environment by implementing Azure PaaS and application-platform capabilities for scalable, secure, cloud-native applications. The role builds and operates enterprise-ready environments that help AI, data, and application teams deploy workloads independently through automated, self-service APIs and CI/CD blueprints. It abstracts Azure PaaS and Kubernetes complexity to provide engineering teams with a streamlined platform for deploying, running, and scaling services reliably and securely. The engineer designs and evolves the cloud platform; leads Azure Container Apps and AKS environments; integrates data platforms such as Azure Databricks and Snowflake; and works with development teams to troubleshoot deployments and improve reliability. The position also supports on-call incident response, implements identity and security patterns, automates provisioning through APIs and infrastructure as code, builds CI/CD pipelines, and establishes platform observability and monitoring.

Requirements

  • 8–12+ years of cloud engineering experience focused on application platforms, PaaS services, and container orchestration.
  • Deep experience with AKS or Azure Container Apps, API Management, Service Bus or Event Grid, and Databricks or Snowflake integrations.
  • Hands-on experience logging, monitoring, and diagnosing distributed systems.
  • Strong coding ability in Python, Go, or .NET to build custom tools, automation, and platform integrations.
  • Solid experience with Docker and Kubernetes operations, including deployment, scaling, and deep troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency implementing Managed Identity, Key Vault, and modern application authentication patterns.
  • Expert-level skill in Terraform or Bicep, including development of reusable, version-controlled modules.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining pipelines, including automated testing and security controls.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and evolve the cloud platform to provide standardized, self-service capabilities supporting application modernization.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and operation of Azure Container Apps and Kubernetes (AKS) environments.
  • Architect and automate deployment of data-intensive platforms, including Azure Databricks and Snowflake, and integrate them with the application stack.
  • Work with development teams to debug deployment and runtime issues, improve application reliability, and enhance platform stability.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and root cause analysis to maintain platform availability and performance.
  • Implement secure design patterns using Managed Identities and Azure Key Vault for secret management and service-to-service authentication.
  • Build and maintain API-driven integrations that automate provisioning and lifecycle management for application, AI, and data workloads.
  • Define and enforce automated infrastructure-as-code standards using Terraform or Bicep and CI/CD policy-as-code.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps for application deployment, environment promotion, and release automation.
  • Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting using Application Insights and Log Analytics to support platform health and troubleshooting.
