About The Position

This leadership position performs routine patrols, writes incident reports, and responds to non-emergency and emergency calls throughout the entire campus as requested by security supervision. The role involves carrying out assignments as directed by the Security Manager and/or supervisor, following up on all incident reports and dispatch entries, and completing routine inside/outside rounds and dispatch duties. Additionally, the Lead Security Officer is responsible for monthly checks of fire extinguishers, fire doors, outside lighting, panic buttons, and elevator phones. This position also involves other security activities during their assigned shift, delegating duties to security and dispatch staff, assisting with job performance reviews and coaching of staff, checking wand reports, and ensuring all policies and procedures are carried out. Training of security officers and dispatchers is also a key responsibility, along with escorting patients and employees as needed. The role requires responding to hospital emergency overhead pages, monitoring and paging fire codes, and reporting alarms from various systems. The Lead Security Officer answers calls for assistance, creates maintenance work orders, and enters information into the TMS application. Monitoring the CCTV system, conducting continuous random patrols, and securing/unlocking doors are also part of the duties. Notifying management of major incidents, enforcing parking policies, and responding to all calls from the public, hospital staff, and dispatch are essential. The position also ensures contractors have the necessary permits and writes required reports. Adherence to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, assisting in creating ID badges, and demonstrating competency in Microsoft Windows are also required. Requirements

  • Previous leadership or security experience.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to interact with people at all levels to communicate information in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Must have previous leadership or security experience.
  • If driving a company vehicle must be eligible under the hospital insurance guidelines.
  • Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done as required.
  • Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
  • Demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support (Within 3 months of hire or transfer)
  • TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt (Within 6 months of hire or transfer)

  • Employees who are in this position on or before 8/1/2024 will have 24 months to complete the TEAM ADVANCED certification.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out assignments as directed by the Security Manager and/or supervisor.
  • Follows up on all incident reports and dispatch entries. Ensures that all reports and entries are filled out properly and communicated to the proper person.
  • Completes routine inside/outside rounds and dispatch duties.
  • Responsible for monthly check of fire extinguishers, fire doors, outside lighting checks, panic buttons and elevator phones.
  • Responsible for any security activities that occur during the course of their assigned shift.
  • Delegates to security and dispatch staff duties and other assignments.
  • Assists Supervisor and/or Manager in job performance reviews of staff; performs coaching of staff.
  • Checks wand reports, and informs officers of the report.
  • Ensures all policies and procedures are carried out.
  • Trains security officers and dispatchers.
  • Escorts patients to In Patient Mental Health, or other areas of the facility, as requested by staff (i.e. doctor, nurse).
  • Escorts employees to and from their vehicle, as requested or assigned by the Security Supervisor or the Security Manager.
  • Assists with helicopter flight operations.
  • Responds to hospital emergency overhead pages as determined by security dispatch.
  • Monitors and pages all fire codes, as received on the fire monitor system located in security dispatch.
  • Monitors and reports alarms received on the S&D alarm panel, generator alarm panel, HVAC computer, Medical Air Gases alarm panel.
  • Answers all calls for assistance, received on the security emergency phone line or facilities help line.
  • Creates a maintenance work order for all calls received on the facilities help line.
  • Enters information from maintenance job logs and work orders into the TMS application.
  • Monitors CCTV system for any and all suspicious circumstances, dispatching a security officer when required.
  • Conducts continuous random patrols, utilizing the patrol vehicle, bicycle, or foot patrol.
  • Secures and unlocks doors, as prescribed by policies or procedures, or at the direction of the Security Manager and Supervisor.
  • Notifies the Security Manager and/or Supervisor via chain of command, for any and all major incidents that occur of facility property.
  • Enforces parking policy, as directed.
  • Responds to all calls received from the public, hospital staff, and the security dispatcher.
  • Responds to all panic alarms located throughout the facility.
  • Responsible for enforcing that all contractors that are working above the ceiling and/or have removed a ceiling tile have a yellow copy of the ‘Above Ceiling Access Permit’ permit.
  • Writes reports as required by policies.
  • Follows all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Assists in creating ID badges.
