About The Position

GFL Environmental is looking for a Lead Scale Attendant to join our team in Edmonton AB! The Lead Scale Attendant acts as the primary point of contact at the scale house, overseeing daily scale operations, leading customer service initiatives, and ensuring accurate administrative and financial tracking. This role is a mix of operational oversight, administration, and team leadership. This position is located just outside of Edmonton in Parkland County. A reliable vehicle is necessary as public transit is not available.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle (mileage will be compensated).
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 25 lbs (e.g., moving inventory/supplies).
  • Strong computer literacy, including experience with scale software, billing systems, and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to de-escalate conflicts effectively.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a scale house, landfill operations, or a related administrative/supervisory role is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily batch closes and ensure all financial reconciliations are accurate.
  • Work closely with the Site Manager and Sales Manager to process and verify all customer rate adjustments.
  • Assist with purchasing, inventory management, and other administrative aspects of the scale house.
  • Maintain accurate records of waste manifests, weight tickets, and compliance documentation.
  • Foster a culture of superior customer service and lead by example.
  • Engage with customers in-person and over the phone to answer inquiries and resolve issues.
  • Train, mentor, and support junior scale attendants and new hires.
  • Direct traffic flow at the scale house to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Ensure the weigh scale and associated software are functioning correctly; act as the primary contact for vendor troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Manage customer access, including the assignment and monitoring of overnight access codes.
  • Regularly review security footage to ensure all overnight loads are recorded accurately and facility rules are followed.
  • Enforce site safety rules and PPE requirements for all drivers and visitors.
