About The Position

The Lead Sanitation Equipment Operator is a hands-on working leader responsible for coordinating and performing sanitation activities to ensure production equipment and the facility are clean, safe, and production-ready. This position provides day-to-day leadership to the sanitation team by assigning work, training team members, monitoring task completion, and promoting compliance with food safety, quality, and safety standards. Working closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and the Sanitation Supervisor, this role ensures sanitation activities are completed efficiently while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining compliance with GMPs, HACCP, FSMA, GFSI, and company policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous sanitation or manufacturing experience required.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation.
  • Must consent background screening, drug screening.
  • Must be able to walk throughout the plant, to include walking and climbing up/downstairs.
  • Must have be ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and must be able to wear a respirator required.
  • Must have the appropriate level of sensory acuity (visual, hearing, speaking, smell and touch) to be able to identify and react to normal, abnormal and alarm conditions (chemicals, temperature, etc.)
  • Must be able to logically and methodically work through and break down complex problems and processes to enable effective communication with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • food manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Previous lead or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience with CIP systems and production equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in daily Clean-in-Place (CIP) and manual cleaning activities.
  • Coordinate daily sanitation assignments and provide direction to the sanitation team.
  • Safely disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble production equipment, pumps, piping, and line components.
  • Ensure completion of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), including daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual sanitation tasks.
  • Perform facility cleaning, including floors, drains, overheads, walls, and production support areas.
  • Train and coach team members on sanitation procedures, equipment operation, food safety, and safe work practices.
  • Monitor sanitation activities to ensure compliance with GMPs, food safety, quality, and safety standards.
  • Assist with GMP inspections, sanitation audits, allergen controls, and food safety initiatives.
  • Identify and report equipment, maintenance, quality, or food safety concerns to the Sanitation Supervisor.
  • Assist in investigating and resolving sanitation, food safety, and quality issues.
  • Operate forklifts, floor scrubbers, scissor lifts, pressure washers, and other sanitation equipment safely.
  • Complete required sanitation documentation accurately and on time.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to sanitation, safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
