Under general supervision, plans, conducts, and supervises complex accounting activities relating to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resultant managerial reports and financial statements for Reinsurance Accounting. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience
  • 6 years of relevant and progressive professional experience in Accounting and/or Finance
  • Experience preparing consolidated financial statements
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles
  • Ability to apply broad knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable business areas
  • Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office Package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare reports regarding facultative, treaty, and excess of loss coverages for reinsurance programs
  • Lead the preparation, approval, and audit of financial documents to ensure journal entries are properly entered into the accounting system
  • Review and audit reinsurance agreements entered into financial systems for Underwriting, Claims, and Accounting use
  • Assist in preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory filings on both a consolidated and company basis
  • Prepare internal summaries of assumed and ceded business and compile data related to commutations and liquidations
  • Communicate and reinforce reinsurance accounting policies, practices, and procedures
  • Review and approve forms and reports prepared by team members for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with banking activities including letters of credit and collateral management
  • Proactively resolve reconciliation items related to reinsurer balances
  • Update profit commission and sliding scale calculations
  • Develop work plans, establish timelines, and set goals for assigned work and work unit
  • Assign resources as needed
  • Meet commitments on deadlines
  • Communicate team or work unit results and recommendations with management and clients
  • Drive improvement in business processes and implementation of new processes
  • Ensure work is completed thoroughly and efficiently
  • Comply with corporate policies and procedures
  • Report any breakdown in controls to management
  • Conduct all activities in a safe manner
  • Plan, conduct, and supervise assignments; train personnel and assign work
  • May assist with the review and evaluation of assigned personnel
