About The Position

St. Augustine Youth Services (SAYS) is a mission-driven organization providing residential care and behavioral health services to youth. Our team is committed to safety, structure, and positive outcomes for every child we serve. We’re looking for a Lead Registered Nurse (RN) to oversee nursing operations within our residential program. This role is ideal for a highly organized, independent RN who can supervise staff, manage medication systems, and ensure compliance—while stepping in as needed to support direct care. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong clinical judgment, coordination skills, and the ability to be consistently available for nursing support.

Requirements

  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Florida.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred).
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, or in a residential/behavioral health setting strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership and staff supervision skills in a residential care setting.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and working with at-risk youth.
  • Solid clinical assessment and medication management skills.
  • Familiarity with Florida regulatory requirements, including Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).
  • Ability to respond effectively to medical and behavioral crises.
  • Strong documentation and attention to detail (incident reports, MARs, health records).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification (required).
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or equivalent (preferred or required within 90 days).
  • First Aid certification.
  • Ability to pass Level 2 background screening (DCF clearance required).
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in pediatrics, behavioral health, or residential care preferred.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or equivalent (preferred or required within 90 days).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise nursing staff (LPNs) and provide ongoing guidance and support.
  • Be available for LPN supervision and clinical consultation at all times.
  • Complete annual performance evaluations.
  • Train and monitor medication delegation to House Parents in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Address campus-wide health and safety concerns.
  • Manage payroll processes including timesheets and time-off requests for direct reports.
  • Complete and maintain the monthly on-call schedule.
  • Attend weekly house team meetings.
  • Fill in for nursing coverage when necessary.
  • Oversee all medication management processes for residential youth.
  • Administer, deliver, and coordinate medications (including school delivery and urgent pharmacy pickups).
  • Maintain Medication Administration Records (MAR), narcotic logs, and medication counts.
  • Ensure proper medication storage, documentation, and disposal.
  • Coordinate bi-weekly psychiatric clinics via Zoom (single session for all youth).
  • Prepare documentation, maintain records in eR, and manage updates in RXNT.
  • Process physician orders, informed consents, prior authorizations, and lab work (Quest Diagnostics).
  • Communicate all medication changes to staff and stakeholders.
  • Maintain compliance with 5339 forms, court orders, and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct intake medical reviews, medication reconciliation, and AIMS assessments.
  • Monitor ongoing health needs and ensure proper documentation.
  • Coordinate with therapists, case managers, pharmacies, and providers.
  • Prepare and manage medication supplies for off-campus trips and home visits.
  • Ensure proper documentation, tracking, and reconciliation upon return.
