About The Position

Responsible for the overall daily operation of the Diagnostic Radiology department. Oversee the activities of the staff radiologic technologist. Assist with annual appraisals on staff/orient new employees. This role involves assisting in developing necessary forms, procedures, and protocols, conferring with radiologists to determine proper imaging protocols, and conferring with the department manager to determine proper procedures/guidelines. The Lead Radiology Technologist will also develop and implement new forms as needed for operations, ensure the safety of patients, other hospital employees, and visitors, and oversee daily QC/preventative maintenance on equipment. Record keeping for equipment calibration/service, reporting equipment malfunctions, and evaluating new products/equipment are also key functions. This role assists the manager in determining the value of new products/equipment, reviewing them for cost-effectiveness, and making recommendations for capital purchases. Maintaining or changing patient/technologist schedules for accessibility and quality services, providing proper scheduling for procedures, and preparing technologist schedules for manager review are essential. The position requires maintaining department statistics and records for federal, state, and local agencies, assisting with accreditations, and supporting JCAHO and DOH inspections. The Lead Radiology Technologist will assist the department manager in developing performance improvement initiatives, cost-saving initiatives, and better patient care initiatives. Oversight of training, hiring, and education, including assisting with annual performance appraisals and interviews for diagnostic radiology positions, and orienting new employees are critical. Maintaining continuing education for staff and overseeing the PACS system and related functions, including assisting the PACS coordinator in maintenance and daily operations, are also part of the role. Verifying correct image/patient data in PACS and evaluating new PACS/CR/Software/equipment are required. This position must follow the negotiated agreement set forth by the technical bargaining group of the Service Employees International Union District 1199P, AFL-CIO, CLC. Additionally, the incumbent will perform all job duties of a Staff Radiologic Technologist as described in their job description and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of a (JRCERT) accredited Radiologic Technology Program recognized by ARRT.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Current Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years’ experience as Registered Radiologic Technologist with credentials with ARRT.

  • Evaluate new PACS/CR/Software/equipment.
