About The Position

PayPal is seeking a Lead Product Manager to set product direction for a risk domain spanning a portfolio of risk strategies. In partnership with risk strategy leaders, this role defines the domain vision and roadmap and turns business outcomes—including loss reduction, approval rates, and customer experience—into product plans. The Product Manager specifies what each strategy requires, including rules, models, data, and customer treatments, and shapes the roadmap for PayPal’s next-generation Risk Decisioning Platform. Near-term priorities include moving strategies off legacy systems and ramping them to full production. Longer-term work includes launching new strategies and continually optimizing through experimentation and automation. The role collaborates with data science, modeling, and engineering teams, tracks performance and captured savings, and represents the domain in product and steering committee reviews. The position requires deep risk-domain expertise and strong technical fluency.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience and a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Deep risk-domain expertise and strong technical fluency.
  • Experience building products in fraud, account integrity, credit, or other risk domains in close partnership with risk strategy teams.
  • Track record of setting a multi-year product vision and roadmap while balancing near-term delivery with longer-term initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of risk decisioning and tuning, including rules, machine-learning models, features, step-up and friction treatments, and the tradeoffs between losses and customer experience.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including defining and interpreting loss, catch, false-positive, and approval-rate metrics; sizing opportunities; and linking product changes to business impact.
  • Experience launching through controlled rollouts and experimentation, including champion/challenger tests and staged traffic ramps.
  • Experience translating business needs into clear requests for data science, modeling, and platform teams and managing dependencies across those teams.
  • Experience leading major platform transitions, such as migrating risk strategies from legacy systems while protecting performance.
  • Ability to influence senior business stakeholders and drive milestone-based delivery across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to product strategy with cross-functional stakeholders in alignment with the shared product or enabling-platform vision.
  • Implement the architectural roadmap, balancing innovative design and technical implementation with regulatory requirements, time to market, customer needs, and product profitability.
  • Represent customer experience and customer needs in product requirements and decision-making.
  • Monitor product success metrics, including usability studies, research, and market analysis.
  • Manage workstreams involving analytics, customer discovery, market research, and competitive analysis to support data-driven decisions.
  • Monitor product profitability measures, including budget.
  • Participate in Product Reviews, Operating Reviews, Business Reviews, and other operational mechanisms that drive execution and accountability; interface with product and technology leadership as needed.
  • Partner with content developers, data scientists, product designers, and user experience researchers.
  • Set the product vision and roadmap for a risk domain and portfolio of risk strategies in partnership with risk strategy leaders.
  • Define strategy requirements, including rules, models, data, and customer treatments, and shape the roadmap for the next-generation Risk Decisioning Platform.
  • Lead migration of risk strategies from legacy systems and ramp them to full production while protecting performance.
  • Launch new strategies and optimize them through experimentation and automation.
  • Work with data science, modeling, and engineering teams to track performance and captured savings, and represent the domain in product and steering committee reviews.

Benefits

  • Generous paid time off.
  • Healthcare coverage for employees and their families.
  • Resources to support financial security and mental health.
  • Annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation may be available, as applicable.
