About The Position

Design and create printed circuit board (PCB) layouts for circuit card assemblies (CCAs), using input and feedback from electrical and mechanical design engineers and manufacturing process engineers. Work includes placing components within a specified size envelope, routing metal traces, conducting milestone reviews with stakeholders, and releasing PCB and CCA drawings. The position also develops fabrication and assembly documentation, updates designs and documents in response to engineering changes, and creates ECAD library footprints and schematic symbols as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 9 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and at least 7 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Competent skills and experience with ECAD software applications and related equipment.
  • Experience and knowledge of PCB design technologies, PCB layout techniques, electrical schematics, and PCB fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for design, including design for manufacturability, and documentation standards such as IPC and ASME/ANSI.
  • Relevant IPC standards include IPC-2221, IPC-2222, IPC-6012, IPC-A-600, and IPC-A-610.
  • IT experience supporting backend management and maintenance of ECAD tools such as Siemens Xpedition and EDM.

Nice To Haves

  • Multiple years of PCB design experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in PCB design.
  • An associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and/or an IPC CID certification.
  • A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with Siemens (formerly Mentor Graphics) Xpedition software.
  • Practical knowledge of IPC design standards, including design for manufacturability, and ASME/ANSI documentation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Place and route components so electrical and physical specifications meet the requirements for each PCB design.
  • Ensure manufacturing and assembly requirements are met.
  • Develop and generate drawings and documentation for PCB fabrication and assembly.
  • Rework PCB designs when engineering design changes occur and assist the design team in resolving issues.
  • Update drawings and documentation in accordance with engineering change request instructions.
  • Create ECAD library footprints and/or schematic symbols as required for design projects.
  • Hold milestone reviews with stakeholders and release PCB and CCA drawings.
