About The Position
Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is seeking a highly motivated Lead NDT Technician to oversee a team of NDT technicians performing critical inspections of components for the SPARC project. This role involves supervising one shift of NDT technicians, conducting inspections on critical components, and preparing detailed inspection reports. The technician will also analyze and interpret inspection requirements for various alloys, review vendor reports, support ISO 9001:2015 activities, and interface with technicians on quality-related issues and technical drawings.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Experience in aerospace, nuclear, power, or petrochemical industries
- NDT level II certification (RT, PT, VT)
- 40 hour radiation safety training
- Radiation safety card holder, valid in MA
- 5+ years of experience inspecting welds, braze, and/or solder joints
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Perform activities such as typing, standing, stooping, climbing, and sitting for extended periods of time
- Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics
- Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call; may require working long hours occasionally

- Additional NDT certifications
- Experience using digital x-ray equipment and software (CR, DR)
Responsibilities
- Supervise one shift of NDT technicians, responsible for conducting inspections on critical components
- Carry out in-process inspection of weldments and soldered structures using radiography (x-ray), visual, penetrant and other non-destructive techniques
- Prepare and document detailed inspection reports and nonconformances as needed
- Analyze and interpret inspection and NDT requirements related to austenitic steels, copper, titanium, and other alloys
- Review and approve inspection and material test reports from vendors
- Support ISO 9001:2015 activities on the shopfloor
- Review blueprints and documentation to ensure appropriate materials are used and specifications are followed
- Interface with technicians on issues related to quality and help them in understanding and interpreting quality specifications and technical drawings
