About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central AZ (BBBSAZ) to offer a Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) Federal Work-Study (FWS) position. This role involves creating and supporting one-on-one mentoring relationships with children aged 6-18. The student worker will facilitate group mentoring sessions, help students build social-emotional skills, and develop confidence. The work schedule is dependent on BBBSAZ's operational needs, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and potential for summer work. This position is approved as community service, offering services to non-GCU community members. Applicants must complete their FAFSA to be reviewed for FWS eligibility.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
  • Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
  • Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Mentoring a plus.
  • Ability to speak a second language a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mentoring groups by facilitating group relationship development and lessons.
  • Maintain records of sessions.
  • Conduct check-ins with school liaison(s).
  • Prepare and implement mentoring curriculum and activities.
  • Recommend adjustments to materials as needed.
