About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in the Phoenix Valley that aim to improve the quality of life for community residents. GCU has a partnership with IdentiFreed, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals exiting situations such as trafficking, domestic violence, and addiction through employment, mentorship, discipleship, and practical support. This Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) student worker position is approved for Federal Work-Study (FWS) and Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) funding. The work schedule is dependent on IdentiFreed's hours of operation and needs, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year. Eligible student workers may also work during the summer. This role provides services to non-GCU community members, aligning with the definition of community service which aims to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals. Applicants must complete their FAFSA to be reviewed for FWS eligibility.

Requirements

  • Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
  • Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Mentoring a plus.
  • Ability to speak a second language a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in completing applications and required documentation to access available resources and services.
  • Facilitate access to essential needs by helping clients obtain clothing, hygiene supplies, and other basic necessities.
  • Support retail operations by assisting with merchandising, donation intake, inventory organization, and point-of-sale transactions in the thrift store.
  • Contribute to outreach and communications efforts through marketing support, newsletter development, social media engagement, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Prepare and distribute hygiene kits and assist in coordinating resource distribution to clients.
  • Engage in community outreach and ministry events as available to promote services and strengthen community connections.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall program operations and organizational goals.
