About The Position

Three Trails Behavioral Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Lead Mental Health Technician (MHT) to join their day team. This role involves direct patient care and leadership responsibilities, acting as a resource for staff and ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered care. The ideal candidate is a dependable team player with strong behavioral health experience, capable of leading by example in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Three Trails Behavioral Hospital will serve children, adolescents, adults, and seniors with innovative, evidence-based inpatient behavioral healthcare. The facility, expected to open in the second half of 2026, will be located at the intersection of I-70 and Little Blue Parkway, adjacent to the Children’s Mercy Hospital Outpatient Clinics. It will feature 120 licensed beds, span over 88,000 square feet, and include an activity yard and gym. The hospital aims to create over 200 new full-time jobs.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and observational skills
• Must be able to manage challenging behaviors with professionalism and empathy
• Current BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain upon hire
• Ability to work 12 hour shifts

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field
• Previous experience in behavioral health, psychiatric care, or healthcare setting

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and supervision in a behavioral health setting
• Act as a shift resource for MHT staff, offering guidance and support as needed
• Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment at all times
• Conduct routine patient safety checks and observations
• Support patients with daily living activities as appropriate
• Respond appropriately to situations and behavioral escalations
• Collaborate with nursing and clinical staff to support patient care plans.
