What You’ll Do - Lead Mental Health Tech The Lead Mental Health Technician (Lead MHT) is a hands-on leader who helps keep patient care safe, consistent, and organized across the hospital. In addition to performing the duties of an MHT, the Lead MHT serves as a point of contact for technicians, helps communicate needs and concerns to nursing leadership, and follows up to make sure expectations are understood and carried out. This role provides day-to-day guidance to MHTs on patient observation, therapeutic interactions, documentation, and unit routines. The Lead MHT helps identify gaps in coverage or practice, responds to concerns on the units, and brings patient safety issues to the appropriate nurse or leader promptly. Working with the Nurse Educator, the Lead MHT also helps train new technicians, provides mentorship and feedback, and models the professionalism and compassionate care expected at Hickory Trail.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or equivalent required.
  • Three (3) years’ of related experience.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques.
  • Understanding of mental illness.
  • At least one year of experience coaching and developing other staff members in psychiatric patient care techniques or at least one year of experience performing similar duties at the facility.
  • MHT’s may be required to work weekends, overtime and have flexible hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline highly desirable.
  • CNA Certification Preferred.
  • Psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Responsibilities
