About The Position

Maple Meadows Assisted Living is seeking a Lead Medication Aide to administer prescribed medications and treatments to residents, observing effects, documenting information, and communicating concerns to the Wellness Director or designated personnel. This role also supports residents with activities of daily living, encourages independence, and preserves dignity. The Lead Medication Aide oversees daily medication workflows, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely administration. They provide coaching and support to Medication Aides, assist with training, and conduct quality checks on documentation and medication storage. This position serves as the primary shift resource for medication-related questions and coordinates with Wellness leadership to address concerns and maintain continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of medication assistance training in compliance with the state’s regulatory requirements and facility requirements.
  • Maintains up-to-date medication certification requirements according to state regulations.
  • Compassionate and empathetic in personal interactions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-supervising, self-motivating; willing to collaborate and work as a team member.
  • Adaptable and flexible; highly organized with ability to manage multiple demands/tasks concurrently.
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills.
  • Leadership in medication accuracy; ensuring consistent adherence to medication administration protocols by proactively identifying errors, reinforcing best practices, and supporting staff in maintaining high accuracy standards.
  • Workflow coordination; organizing and prioritizing medication-related tasks during the shift, ensuring smooth transitions, timely administration, and effective communication across care teams.
  • Staff development support; assisting Wellness leadership in evaluating staff competency, providing constructive feedback, and supporting ongoing skill development for Medication Aides.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior direct care experience required.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current CPR certification preferred.
  • Meets age requirements according to facility policy and state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments to residents.
  • Observes residents taking medication and notes effects, including unexpected or adverse effects.
  • Correctly documents required information in residents’ medication administration records.
  • Communicates concerns or observations with the Wellness Director, Wellness Coordinator, or designated personnel.
  • Supports residents with activities of daily living including personal hygiene, socialization, cognition, and physical health.
  • Encourages resident independence, supports resident choice, and preserves resident dignity.
  • Oversees daily medication workflows, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely administration.
  • Provides coaching and support to Medication Aides.
  • Assists with training Medication Aides.
  • Conducts routine quality checks of documentation and medication storage.
  • Serves as the primary shift resource for medication-related questions.
  • Coordinates closely with Wellness leadership to address concerns and maintain continuity of care.
