About The Position

The Children’s Home of Reading is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Lead Medical Coordinator (RN) to join their team. This role is crucial in ensuring the health and well-being of unaccompanied alien children (UACs) by overseeing medical services, coordinating with external providers, and maintaining health records. Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor’s degree; OR a higher health-related qualification (e.g., Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner).
  • Current, unrestricted Pennsylvania RN licensure required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of employment in public health or a healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care.
  • Reliable transportation required for travel between program sites.
  • Must exhibit integrity and good moral character appropriate for working with children in a residential or foster care setting.
  • Must successfully complete ORR-required background investigations.
  • Must provide proof of immunity of vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route (Varicella, MMR, Tdap, annual Influenza) and comply with all state licensing health screening requirements including TB screening.
  • Must complete all ORR-required pre-service trainings, as required and scheduled by ORR.
  • Must complete all ORR-required continuing education on an annual basis, as required and scheduled by ORR, covering applicable ORR regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Must sign and comply with CHOR’s Code of Conduct consistent with ORR policy, confidentiality acknowledgment, and mandatory reporter agreement.
  • Must disclose any prior misconduct, including conduct occurring off duty, on employment applications and in interviews. Material omissions are grounds for termination.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts health screenings for newly admitted UACs within required timeframes.
  • Oversees medication administration and management across both program locations.
  • Monitors ongoing medical needs and maintains confidential health records.
  • Coordinates with external medical, dental, and public health providers.
  • Responds to urgent health concerns and medical emergencies.
  • Travels between program office locations to maintain consistent medical oversight across all sites.
  • Provides staff training on medical, dental, and public health topics relevant to pediatric, adolescent, and migrant health.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures for confidential health record management, triage of health concerns, medical emergency response, environmental health and safety, and post-release health care planning.
  • Participates in ORR-required monthly and quarterly status meetings as needed.
  • Supports continuation application preparation related to health services.
  • Exercises independent judgment consistent with program policy, ORR requirements, and applicable law.
  • Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing, with children, families, and staff.
  • Maintains regular, reliable attendance and responds promptly to program needs, including outside standard business hours when required by the role.
