About The Position

The Lead Medical Assistant serves as a resource to other Medical Assistants within their office by mentoring, training and leading day to day operations. In addition to their Lead duties, they may also perform standard MA functions such as assisting patients and performing various diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections and vitals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years Medical Assistant experience.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with medical office procedures.
  • Customer Interaction Knowledge of and ability to utilize practices, tools, and techniques for communicating with a customer.
  • Medical Equipment Knowledge of the common types of equipment or devices used in the healthcare industry, and the ability to use these in patient care.
  • Health Information Documentation Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods, ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic fo
  • Patient Chart Reading and Interpretation Knowledge of how to read and interpret patient charts regarding medication sheets, diets, history and physicals, and tests, ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to patient care.
  • Clinical Skills Knowledge of and ability to provide clinical skills necessary for patient care, e.g. history taking, therapeutic planning and monitoring, etc., to achieve optimized outcomes in medication therapy and clinical treatment.
  • Clinical Performance Improvement Knowledge of the factors contributing to quality patient care, and the ability to influence these factors in a positive way.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association Within 90 Days
  • CMA - Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants

Responsibilities

  • Serves as resource to other Medical Assistants by training, mentoring and assisting in the direction of daily operations.
  • May assist and have input in performance evaluation process of standard MA's.
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and ensures proper identification.
  • Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures and medical history information.
  • Remains proficient and knowledgeable regarding the use and documentation requirements within information technology systems within established scope of practice.
  • Assists physicians with examinations, various diagnostic procedures, and may perform EKG and venipuncture/injections in the office, using appropriate skills to provide quality care to the patients.
  • Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
  • Orders clinical supplies to maintain inventory and to facilitate smooth operations of the office.
