About The Position

This lead-level engineering role offers challenging opportunities in mechanical engineering and career advancement. The position leads mechanical design engineering efforts on multidisciplinary project teams, applying expertise to special-purpose equipment, pressure vessels, and interfacing systems, controls, and structural support elements. It includes monitoring assigned staff’s technical work and managing assigned tasks to meet project schedules and budgets. The engineer prepares and reviews complex calculations, mechanical systems and equipment designs, documented design inputs for drawings, equipment specifications, and reports and studies. The role also involves developing budgets, schedules, and work plans for single-discipline or simple-scope projects, communicating with vendors, interfacing directly with customers in project meetings, and mentoring junior engineers. The position supports Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division, which provides engineering design and consulting support to U.S. Department of Energy sites, national laboratories, and other government contractors. Project work may involve facilities, systems, and equipment for treating, storing, and disposing of nuclear waste or safely handling and processing nuclear material. The role has a hybrid arrangement, with a mix of work from home and in the office. U.S. citizenship is required, and the successful candidate must be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance. Employees may use data, automation, artificial intelligence, and other digital tools where relevant, while remaining accountable for their work and applying professional judgment and review.
