About The Position

The Lead, Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and optimizing manufacturing plans and routings. The role ensures production processes are efficient and cost-effective, meet safety, quality, and industry standards, and provides technical leadership to the Manufacturing Planning team. The position works on-site in a production environment and may require occasional off-shift or weekend support. The role includes leading manufacturing planning documentation and data in the ERP/MRP system; translating engineering designs into manufacturing plans; coordinating with cross-functional teams; improving manufacturing processes; troubleshooting production issues; supporting new product introductions; conducting capacity and line-balancing analyses; supporting audits; mentoring planners and junior engineers; and presenting process metrics and recommendations to leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience creating and maintaining routings, BOMs, and work instructions within an ERP/MRP system.
  • Demonstrated experience improving manufacturing processes using Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing methods, such as machining, assembly, fabrication, and test, and of shop-floor practices.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and provide technical guidance to peers or junior staff.
  • Proficiency with CAD and standard office software, including Excel for data analysis, presentations, and reporting.
  • Experience working on-site in a production environment and supporting occasional off-shift or weekend needs.
  • Experience leading or supporting implementation of systems such as ERP/MRP, MES, or PLM, including data validation, user training, and rollout support.
  • Prior involvement in establishing or improving engineering and planning standards, templates, and master-data governance.
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits, such as ISO, AS, IATF, or other audits, including preparing process documentation and responding to findings.
  • Background developing and maintaining process control plans, FMEAs, and other risk-management tools.
  • Formal Lean/Six Sigma training or certification, such as Green Belt or higher.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver on time in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with digital manufacturing tools, such as statistical process control, simulation, or advanced analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, review, and maintenance of manufacturing routings, bills of material (BOMs), work instructions, and planning data in the ERP/MRP system.
  • Translate engineering designs into optimized manufacturing plans, including operation sequences, labor standards, and tooling and fixture requirements.
  • Coordinate with Production, Supply Chain, Quality, and Design Engineering to support manufacturability, material flow, and on-time delivery.
  • Drive process improvements to reduce cost, improve throughput, and increase first-pass yield using Lean and continuous improvement tools.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support and solve production issues related to process plans, routings, and methods.
  • Support new product introductions by creating and validating process plans, participating in DFM/DFA reviews, and supporting pilot builds.
  • Develop and maintain capacity and line-balancing analyses to support demand planning and resource utilization.
  • Ensure planning documentation complies with internal standards and external regulatory and industry requirements, and support internal and external audits as needed.
  • Mentor and guide planners and junior engineers, help prioritize work, share best practices, and promote safety and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and present data, metrics, and recommendations to leadership regarding process performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Work on-site in a production environment and provide occasional off-shift or weekend support as required.
