About The Position

The Lead Manufacturing Engineer - 4th shift will be working Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The Lead Manufacturing Engineer will work in a production shop environment and serve as product/process engineer. The role will have hardware and process ownership and responsible for planning/execution. The role will impact departmental operations while providing exposure to lean principles and techniques. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years Manufacturing Engineering Experience)
  • Must be willing to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday weekend shifts

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 3 years Manufacturing Engineering Experience
  • GE Leadership Program Graduate in lieu of experience is permitted.
  • Strong background in the interpretation of engineering drawings / specifications and manufacturing processes
  • Process control, improvement & escape prevention, technical requirements & process control, GD&T, blueprint reading, problem solving, lean manufacturing.
  • Direct experience with CNC machining and programming resistance welding, TIG welding, vertical/horizontal lathe, milling, heat treat, brazing, fabrication.
  • Experience with machining tool and fixture designs and/or improvement
  • Ability to make data driven decisions and utilize Six Sigma and Lean tools.
  • Knowledge of safety agency regulations, ISO / Quality procedures
  • Established project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define and control production processes including tooling and equipment.
  • Validate design specifications and shop floor application of new product, tools, or equipment.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a manufacturing engineering discipline.
  • Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work.
  • In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance.
  • Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks.
  • Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems.

  • Participate in the development of mid- and long-term plans outlining projects to support the business in meeting its objectives with a strong focus on cost, part quality and cycle time.
  • Exhibit ownership and take responsibility in attaining all aspects of production operation including safety, scheduling, quality, and team development in assigned areas.
  • Investigate and apply new technology in support of site growth plans.
  • Conduct training, process planning, evaluate operating methods, select controls, and specifies tools, fixtures and gages necessary to repeatedly build conforming hardware.
  • Co-lead efforts to maintain and improve shop floor quality controls and best practices with area Product Team Leaders
