About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Lead Maintenance position leads, organizes and trains the AM Maintenance Staff- including organizing and directing summer cleaning and projects; schedules, trains and leads Facilities Substitutes as needed; organizes and orders supplies; Lead and perform maintenance, repair, custodial, and groundskeeping work across district properties, including snow removal. Serve as the primary on-site technical lead for routine building systems, grounds care, preventive maintenance, and small project coordination. Ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained learning environments that meet district standards and regulatory requirements. The individual performs heavy lifting and moving of furniture. The Lead Maintenance works under the direction of the Facilities Director. The Lead Maintenance works year-round, Monday-Friday, Time of day TBD. This position works during the fall, winter, spring and summer breaks. Work times may change to day shift and four, 10-hour days during the fall, winter, spring and summer breaks. This position earns vacation leave.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years’ experience in building maintenance, facilities, groundskeeping, or related trades.
  • At least one year in a lead or supervisory role strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in general trades (carpentry, basic plumbing, basic electrical) and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to read plans, instructions, labels, and maintenance manuals.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to drive district vehicles and operate equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Availability for occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency call-outs.
  • Knowledge and ability to communicate via email and use a computer in an advanced manner.
  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and care for cleaning materials and equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate in a positive manner.
  • Fingerprinting and Criminal History Check at employee’s expense is Required, once hired.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with irrigation systems, turf management, and athletic-field care.
  • Vocational/technical training or certifications in building trades, HVAC, irrigation, or grounds management.
  • Pesticide applicator’s license or willingness to obtain.
  • OSHA 10/30, CPR/first aid certification, and forklift/tractor operation certification.
  • Prior experience working in K–12 school environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and provide direction to others.
  • Commitment to safety, reliability, and high-quality workmanship.
