About The Position

The Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) is seeking a service-oriented Lead Maintenance Technician to join their high-performing management team. This role is responsible for diagnosing and performing repairs within their assigned property, requiring highly skilled technical knowledge. The position involves performing tasks in several trades, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, household appliances, and heating systems. Duties may also include the removal of low-level asbestos-containing building material (ACBM). The Lead Maintenance Technician will ensure efficient and courteous response to resident requests, coordinate activities of workers, inspect work sites to ensure compliance with HACA and government safety standards, and maintain accurate project records.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Three years' experience in apartment or building maintenance.
  • Vocational training and/or experience in areas of general repairs, carpentry, plumbing, air conditioning and electrical repairs or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Use of personally owned hand tools required.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Be able to read and understand repair manuals, instructions/warning on cleaning agents; write service requests, maintenance reports and inspection reports.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License, driving record, and copy of diplomas and/or transcripts required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks in several trades or crafts at their assigned development.
  • Repairs plumbing, carpentry, electrical, household appliances, and heating systems using various methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Diagnoses and performs repairs within assigned property that are highly technical in nature.
  • Duties might involve the removal of low-level asbestos-containing building material (ACBM).
  • Ensures efficient and courteous response to residents' requests.
  • Coordinates activities of workers and inspects work sites to ensure projects meet HACA and government safety standards.
  • Maintains project records accurately and efficiently.
  • Reads and understands repair manuals, instructions/warnings on cleaning agents, and writes service requests, maintenance reports, and inspection reports.
