The Lead Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for light maintenance, repair, and cleaning tasks performed safely and professionally in a long-term care setting. The role requires additional precautions in patient and resident care areas, including keeping tools out of children’s reach. The mechanic performs and oversees routine work-quality inspections to ensure work orders follow acceptable engineering practices, evaluates building and equipment repairs, and supports the safety, morale, and efficiency of the department and team. The position directs and supervises other maintenance mechanics and acts as a resource to staff. It also assists management with personnel matters and departmental operations, including work-order delegation, files, engineering records and electronic drawings, machinery history, preventive maintenance, parts procurement and inventory, operating procedures, and process improvements. The role works independently with minimal supervision and requires accurate communication while troubleshooting, knowledge of applicable codes and ordinances, and the ability to work assigned shifts and hours. Depending on facility needs, duties may include maintaining mechanical and stationary systems, including boiler operations; maintaining campus grounds; and performing general electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and bed repair and maintenance. On-call duties may be required. The scheduled shift is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with on-call duty one week per month.
