About The Position

This position is responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing the activities of the aquatics program, as well as supervising aquatics staff, ensuring that the mission of The Salvation Army is a top priority in all areas and activities. Performs any necessary administrative duties. Ensures that the aquatic operations are in compliance with established departmental policies and procedures. The Aquatic Lifeguard is an hourly position, which may be designed full-time, part-time, or as needed. Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Manager, the Lifeguard observes swimmers, protects life, prevents accidents, enforces regulations, and does related work as required. Duties will also include working closely with the Aquatics Manager in developing programs for the Kroc Center based upon ongoing needs assessment.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age or High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Current certificates in American Red Cross First Aid or First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title22), CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro), and Lifeguard Training.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to motivate a spirit of unity, loyalty, and helpfulness within and among staff.
  • Ability to plan work priorities, evaluate work performances and provide recommendations for improving productivity and efficiency of work.

  • Equivalent training certificates may be accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Provides life-guarding services.
  • Responds to emergency situations and if necessary administers CPR/First Aid.
  • Assists, as needed, the Aquatics Manager with the operation and maintenance of the pool and equipment; conducts daily walk-through of facility to ensure appropriate appearance; documents needed repairs and maintenance; maintains accurate inventory of first-aid, chemical, operating and program supplies; coordinates the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Collects, reviews and reports statistical data and maintains files as directed by the Aquatics Manager.
  • Helps implement the plans set forth by the Aquatics Manager in accordance with The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Supervises aquatic staff and participants and is responsible for the character building component of all youth programs.
