About The Position

The Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks is seeking applications for a Lifeguard Attendant, including positions at Dundalk and Randallstown Community Centers. This role involves performing routine tasks such as opening and closing facilities, monitoring water activities, directing swimmers, providing first aid, and maintaining cleanliness. The primary responsibility is safeguarding swimmers and non-swimmers at assigned aquatic facilities, enforcing safety rules, and ensuring excellent customer service. The position also includes duties related to water chemistry, mechanical systems, and daily maintenance as an Aquatics Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator. The role may involve serving as a shift lead or head guard.

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age by September 1, 2026.
  • Must have reliable transportation as facilities are not located on public transportation lines.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, physical, and drug test.
  • Must maintain current and valid American Red Cross certification as a lifeguard throughout employment.
  • Must maintain current and valid American Red Cross first aid/CPR/AED certification throughout employment.
  • Must prove current and valid certification as an Aquatics Facilities Operator or Pool Operator during the first two weeks of employment and maintain it throughout employment.
  • Must pass retraining requirements as mandated throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of lifeguarding experience.
  • Current and valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
  • Current and valid American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Experience providing customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Safeguarding swimmers and non-swimmers at assigned facilities.
  • Enforcing pool safety, swimming, and facility rules and regulations.
  • Providing excellent customer service to patrons.
  • Keeping facilities clean and free from hazards.
  • Monitoring weather and water conditions and alerting patrons.
  • Performing duties of a certified Aquatics Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator regarding water chemistry, mechanical systems, and maintenance.
  • Performing hourly checks of water quality and conditions.
  • Adjusting pool chemicals to ensure appropriate pH, chlorination, and alkalinity.
  • Serving as shift lead or head guard during assigned shifts.
  • Performing other related duties as required.
