About The Position

The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is an educational agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia offering programs and resources about early American history through its museums – Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. The Learning team is part of the larger Learning and Community Engagement department; focusing on student programming both onsite in our museums, virtually, in the classroom and through support for self guided groups and homeschool educators.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of or interest in 17th/18th century history and how it relates to today
  • Knowledge of or interest in current educational methodologies
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Enjoys working with a diverse population of adults and children
  • Ability to learn and apply new information in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Knowledge of or interest in program development

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a similar setting or related role.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating guided tours, virtual programs, homeschool programs and outreach using dialogic and inquiry-based methods aligned with state and national standards.
  • Works collaboratively to create programs around changing exhibits and generate ideas for revenue growth.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop and deliver staff training for new and veteran employees.
  • Supports teacher professional development.
  • Serves as a mentor.
