About The Position

L3Harris is seeking a motivated and experienced Space Vehicle Assembly, Integration and Test (SV AI&T) engineer to support programs building and testing space vehicles in Palm Bay, Florida. The hardware produced at this location is mission critical and often complex, including spacecraft buses, mission payloads, microelectronic assemblies, and higher-level system assemblies such as small satellites and top-level space vehicles. The role leads production activities for assigned space vehicle assembly, integration, and test projects, and supports planning, estimating, scheduling, execution, process improvement, and quality efforts. It includes coordinating technical teams and project resources, preparing assembly documentation, supporting test operations and data analysis, and maintaining cost and schedule responsibilities with customer interaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 9 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and at least 7 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing lean/Six Sigma techniques, including FMEA, DFMA, DTC, DOE, and root cause/corrective action analysis.
  • Experience integrating a space vehicle with a launch vehicle.
  • Experience with MGSE and/or EGSE design for space vehicles.
  • Experience managing cost and schedule using Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) tools.
  • Background in development and LRIP manufacturing efforts.
  • Background developing manufacturing processes and transferring them to production.
  • Knowledge of MIL/IPC workmanship and performance standards related to electronic and space vehicle assemblies, such as IPC-620, MIL-STD-810, and NASA-STD-8739.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations to peers, management, and customers.
  • Ability to identify root causes of manufacturing process problems, workmanship defects, and mechanical test failures.
  • Experience in space vehicle test operations, including test development, test execution, data analysis, and anomaly resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a production team executing assembly, integration, and test for an assigned project in accordance with customer requirements, business objectives, and L3Harris processes.
  • Plan new programs and projects related to space vehicle assembly and test.
  • Provide bottom-up estimates for potential projects.
  • Collaborate and consult with cross-functional technical teams on spacecraft development design for manufacture and test (DFMA/DFMT) and process improvements.
  • Promote common designs, processes, and equipment to minimize development costs.
  • Develop and maintain detailed satellite system integration and test plans, and coordinate project resources such as manpower, equipment, facilities, and process resources.
  • Analyze engineering design drawings and parts lists and generate clear, concise assembly documentation for shop-floor personnel.
  • Direct support personnel in day-to-day assembly, integration, and test tasks.
  • Support execution of test processes required for specific test phases.
  • Assist in reviewing and analyzing telemetry and test data, verify that data accurately demonstrates space vehicle functionality and performance, and document and support resolution of test anomalies.
  • Design and develop manufacturing and engineering tools, strategies, and systems.
  • Assist with high-visibility manufacturing efforts, including formal cost and schedule responsibilities and direct customer interface.
  • Develop Integrated Master Schedule milestones for assembly, integration, and test tasks, and provide status to program teams and Operations leadership.
  • Compare actual results with baseline plans to assess project performance, efficiencies, productivity, and lessons learned.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and recommend tooling and process requirements for new or existing product lines.
  • Support root cause and corrective action processes to improve quality and product reliability.
  • Support technical and operational process improvement initiatives.
