About The Position

L3Harris is seeking a motivated and experienced Space Vehicle Assembly, Integration and Test (SV AI&T) engineer to support programs building and testing space vehicles at the Palm Bay, Florida location. The hardware produced there is mission critical and may include spacecraft buses, mission payloads, complex microelectronic assemblies, and higher-level system assemblies such as small satellites and top-level space vehicles. The engineer supports assembly, integration, and testing of an assigned satellite in accordance with customer requirements, business objectives, and L3Harris processes. The role collaborates with cross-functional technical teams on design for manufacture and test and process improvements, and promotes common designs, processes, and equipment to minimize development costs. It also develops and maintains satellite system integration and test plans and coordinates resources throughout the project. The position supports shop-floor execution, test processes, test-data analysis, anomaly resolution, manufacturing planning, cost and schedule responsibilities, and communication with customers and program and operations leadership. It also contributes to root cause and corrective action and technical and operational process-improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing lean/Six Sigma techniques, including FMEA, DFMA, DTC, DOE, and root cause/corrective action analysis.
  • Experience integrating a space vehicle with a launch vehicle.
  • Experience with MGSE and/or EGSE design for space vehicles.
  • Background in developing manufacturing processes and transferring them to production.
  • Knowledge of MIL/IPC workmanship and performance standards related to electronic and space-vehicle assemblies, such as IPC-620, MIL-STD-810, and NASA-STD-8739.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations to peers, management, and customers.
  • Ability to identify root causes of manufacturing process problems, workmanship defects, mechanical test failures, and similar issues.
  • Experience in space-vehicle test operations, including test development, test execution, data analysis, and anomaly resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Support the production team in executing assembly, integration, and test activities for an assigned satellite in accordance with customer requirements, business objectives, and L3Harris processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional technical teams on spacecraft design for manufacture and test (DFMA/DFMT) and process improvements.
  • Promote common designs, processes, and equipment to minimize development costs.
  • Develop and maintain detailed satellite system integration and test plans, and coordinate required manpower, equipment, facilities, and process resources throughout the project.
  • Analyze engineering design drawings and parts lists and generate clear, concise assembly documentation for shop-floor personnel.
  • Directly support personnel in day-to-day assembly, integration, and test task execution.
  • Support test processes required for specific test phases.
  • Assist in reviewing and analyzing telemetry and test data, verify that generated data accurately demonstrates space-vehicle functionality and performance, and document and support resolution of test anomalies.
  • Support high-visibility manufacturing efforts, including formal cost and schedule responsibilities and direct customer interface.
  • Support development of Master Schedule (IMS) milestones for assembly, integration, and test tasks, and provide status updates to the program team and Operations leadership.
  • Compare actual results with baseline plans to assess project performance, efficiencies, productivity, and lessons learned.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and recommend tooling and process requirements for new or existing product lines.
  • Support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) processes to improve quality and product reliability.
  • Support technical and operational process-improvement initiatives.
