Lead Infrastructure Engineer

Truist•Charlotte, NC

About The Position

Truist is seeking a Lead Infrastructure Engineer to provide technical leadership for the architecture, engineering, and implementation of Data Center and Edge networks. The role will lead development of scalable, resilient, and secure interconnection architecture connecting enterprise data centers, cloud providers, third-party partners, and shared technology services. The engineer will establish architectural standards, reusable connectivity patterns, and an implementation roadmap for Cloud Service Hubs, working closely with Network, Cloud, Security, Architecture, Operations, and external service providers. The successful candidate will bring lead-level experience designing complex enterprise and data center networks, with expertise in BGP, routing policy, segmentation, high availability, cloud interconnection, and Equinix-based connectivity. The role calls for translating business and technology strategies into practical network architectures, leading cross-functional initiatives, influencing technical direction, and mentoring engineering teams through implementation and operational transition. This position also designs, builds, directs, and implements enterprise infrastructure platforms and systems; develops automation, monitoring, and optimization practices; and leads strategically important infrastructure initiatives. It troubleshoots critical infrastructure issues, ensures compliance with technology standards and governance, documents designs and procedures, trains technical teams, and communicates infrastructure decisions to stakeholders. Truist will not provide work visa sponsorship, employment authorization, or other immigration-related support for this position.

  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies, including cloud, network, database, storage, platform, computing, and middleware.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex architectures and decisions to executive and technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, make technically sound decisions, and deliver strategic initiatives with ownership and accountability.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
  • 10 or more years designing, engineering, and supporting large-scale enterprise, data center, cloud, or service-provider networks.
  • Experience as a lead engineer, network architect, or technical lead for complex infrastructure transformation initiatives.
  • Advanced expertise in enterprise routing and switching, including BGP, OSPF, route filtering and redistribution, traffic engineering, VLANs, VRFs, overlays, segmentation, and high-availability design.
  • Experience with cloud and third-party interconnection using Equinix Fabric, colocation facilities, cloud on-ramps, carrier services, or comparable platforms.
  • Knowledge of connectivity patterns for Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, SaaS platforms, and external business partners.
  • Experience designing resilient networks with geographic diversity, redundant providers, diverse circuits, failure-domain isolation, and automated recovery.
  • Knowledge of data center and cloud networking, including traffic flows, firewalls, load balancers, network security controls, DNS, NAT, and hybrid-cloud connectivity.
  • Experience designing secure third-party connectivity models addressing segmentation, route control, firewall policy, ownership, monitoring, capacity, and operational support.
  • Experience developing target-state architecture, reference designs, engineering standards, reusable connectivity patterns, and phased implementation roadmaps.
  • Experience leading complex network migrations and modernization while minimizing risk to business-critical applications and services.
  • Ability to account for application requirements, traffic flows, security controls, resiliency requirements, and business dependencies in network solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across routing, connectivity, latency, resiliency, and performance issues involving multiple technology domains and service providers.
  • Experience working with telecommunications, colocation, cloud, equipment, managed service, and other third-party technology providers.
  • Familiarity with network automation and Infrastructure-as-Code, including Ansible Automation Platform, GitLab CI/CD, APIs, Python, Terraform, and automated validation.
  • Experience incorporating observability, telemetry, performance monitoring, capacity management, configuration compliance, and automated pre-change and post-change validation into network designs.
  • Ability to establish architectural governance while balancing security, regulatory, operational, financial, and delivery requirements.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure in a highly regulated industry such as financial services, healthcare, or government.
  • Ability to influence technical direction and align Network, Cloud, Security, Enterprise Architecture, Application, Operations, and business teams.
  • Ability to mentor senior engineers, conduct design reviews, establish engineering standards, and improve organizational technical capabilities.
  • Comfort operating in a large enterprise balancing legacy infrastructure, cloud adoption, data center modernization, security requirements, and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Implement strategic goals established by executives and senior management, and establish operational plans for the technical area with short- to mid-term impact.
  • Design, build, direct, and implement enterprise infrastructure technology platforms and systems.
  • Develop and apply automation, monitoring, and optimization techniques to support infrastructure availability and performance.
  • Lead large, complex, strategically important infrastructure initiatives involving cross-departmental teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to integrate technologies and improve infrastructure standards and processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex critical technical issues affecting infrastructure performance and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with technology strategies, standards, governance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Document infrastructure designs, configurations, and procedures to support operational consistency and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide advanced technical guidance and training to infrastructure teams and lower-level technical professionals.
  • Demonstrate technical innovation in support of business and technology objectives.
  • Influence infrastructure decisions and communicate with stakeholders to align solutions with business objectives.
  • Lead architecture, engineering, and implementation of Data Center and Edge networks and interconnection architecture.
  • Establish architectural standards, reusable connectivity patterns, and implementation roadmaps for Cloud Service Hubs.
