About The Position

This role is for a Lead Hand in Pools & Landscape Construction. The primary focus is on site productivity and team coordination, working directly with a crew and Foreman to build custom pools and complex residential/commercial landscapes. The position involves assisting the Foreman with task sequencing and daily layout, providing hands-on coaching and technical guidance to crew members, and executing high-level construction tasks such as pool structural prep, coping placement, final grading, hardscape cutting, and water feature integration. The role also requires overseeing critical drainage, excavation, and sub-base preparation phases, ensuring structural longevity. Additionally, the Lead Hand will operate and oversee the use of heavy/light equipment and specialized power tools, conduct daily inspections, and ensure assets are secured. A key aspect is modeling a proactive safety culture, participating in Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), ensuring proper PPE utilization, and enforcing OHS protocols. During winter months (November through April), the role transitions to snow and ice management operations, requiring a flexible schedule.

Requirements

  • Deep working knowledge of grading, sub-base preparation, and drainage systems.
  • Strong understanding of pool-specific structures (excavation, coping, and basic plumbing/hydraulics).
  • Robust knowledge of OHS requirements and safe heavy/light equipment operation.
  • Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and scaling architectural and site layout drawings.
  • Expertise in operating mini-excavators, skid steers, and specialized power tools (cut-off saws, laser levels).
  • Ability to utilize digital field management tools (e.g., Aspire, SiteDocs).
  • Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on landscape and/or pool construction experience.
  • Physical stamina for demanding manual labor in all outdoor weather conditions.
  • Strong crew leadership and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Foreman in task sequencing, daily layout, and staking.
  • Provide hands-on coaching and technical guidance to crew members.
  • Execute high-level construction tasks, including pool structural prep, coping placement, final grading, hardscape cutting, and technical water feature integration.
  • Oversee critical drainage, excavation, and sub-base preparation phases to ensure structural longevity for both pools and hardscapes.
  • Safely operate and oversee the use of heavy/light equipment (skid steers, mini-excavators) and specialized power tools.
  • Ensure daily equipment inspections are completed and assets are secured.
  • Model a proactive safety culture.
  • Participate in Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs).
  • Ensure proper PPE utilization and strictly enforce OHS protocols on site.
  • Transition to snow and ice management operations from November through April.
