About The Position

The Packaging Lead hand will be the overall leader of the packaging team and area, working closely with other departments in order to safely meet all company goals, while following our leadership principles. This position is based in a regulated manufacturing environment and requires strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Employees must consistently follow all GMP, safety, and hygiene requirements, including restrictions on jewelry, personal items, and attire while on the production floor. Compliance with these standards is an essential duty of the role to ensure product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years packaging experience preferred.
  • A self-motivated individual with good organizing and coordinating skills with a proven track record of being able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills- a demonstrated ability to encourage open communication and sharing of ideas amongst team members.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel), AS400 applications and InfinityQS software is essential.
  • Lean Manufacturing- experience working with 5S, Kaizen, Visual Controls and Standard Work.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize efficiently using effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Physically capable of performing all required duties including heavy lifting (up to 70lbs).
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a valid forklift license.
  • Minimum Grade 12 education.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Shift Supervisor or alternate and works closely with Shift Managers and the Production Manager.
  • Translate an excellent overall understanding of the packaging area into relentless communication with various stakeholders including Production, Maintenance, QC and Warehouse personnel.
  • Set the pace as an effective leader to direct and supervise the day to day operations of a staff of 10 or more hourly packaging employees.
  • Develop talent through creation of team synergy and delivery of continuous training and guidance to all packaging staff.
  • Have a thorough understanding of product specifications and the impact the packaging department has on both First Time Quality and Food Safety programs.
  • Work closely with the maintenance department to assess packaging department equipment optimization, troubleshooting and proper operation of equipment.
  • Accurately record and maintain all required documentation through SPC, WMS, AS400, etc.
  • Ensure precise measurement and ongoing improvement of factory key performance indicators (KPIs) across the entire QCDSME framework.
  • Lead by example and comply with all GMP’s, safety practices, and Best Operating Procedures.
  • Promote continuous improvement and workplace safety.
  • Assist Production Supervisor in writing and delivering performance reviews (PEP) as well as consultation/disciplinary action when required.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
