Ram Iron & Metal is seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Hand, Non-Ferrous to join their team. This role is an intermediate position, reporting to the Supervisor, Non-Ferrous / Lead, Operations, and is responsible for the smooth and safe operation of the team, helping workers meet goals, and mediating concerns with upper management. The successful candidate needs knowledge of scrap grading or a strong desire to learn, and will assist in daily operations including scrap inspection, mobile equipment operation, fulfilling customer orders, and performing general maintenance duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to work outside in different weather conditions (i.e. snow, rain, cold. Heat, etc.).
  • Ability to adapt and adjust to various other assignments as requested by the Supervisor.
  • Proven experience in the scrap metal industry.
  • Hands-on knowledge of handling and working with various types of metals.
  • Familiarity with sorting, processing, and identifying different metals.
  • Knowledge of scrap grading or a strong desire to learn.
  • Good standing employment history and relationship with prior employers.

Nice To Haves

  • Bobcat and Forklift experience.
  • First AID/CPR Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in job training employees within the Non-Ferrous department.
  • Grader and traffic control.
  • Control of non-confirming materials (quality assurance).
  • Baler.
  • Assist with inventory control.
  • Loading and unloading materials.
  • Housekeeping.
  • Pre-inspections.
  • Preventative maintenance (greasing, tightening bolts, fueling, top up of fluids).
  • Fill in for roles that are open due to vacation scheduling, sickness, or other leaves.
  • Assist with Grading and traffic control as needed.
  • Operate Heavy Equipment regularly to sort, stack material, load, unload, cut, or bale material.
  • Observe load hookup and determine safety of load.
  • Maintain clear roadways.
  • Ensure piles are safely piled to avoid material from falling or piling down.
  • Sort and segregate material as per mills and foundry specification.
  • Ensure safe movement throughout the yard.
  • Report all incidents, accidents and/or hazards.
  • Report deficiencies in systems, facilities, machinery, equipment and/or tools immediately to the supervisor.
  • Other duties as required, not limited to responsibilities listed above.
