About The Position

We are hiring a Lead Hand / Lead Carpenter to take a hands-on leadership role on custom homebuilding projects. This position is ideal for an experienced residential carpenter who can lead by example in the field—coordinating day-to-day work, maintaining jobsite organization, and ensuring rough and finish carpentry is completed safely, accurately, and to a high standard. You’ll be a key on-site leader supporting quality, schedule, and smooth coordination with other trades—while still working with tools and completing carpentry work yourself. Join an established, highly respected custom home builder with deep roots in the Shreveport market. Work directly under the owner with real mentorship and visibility into high-end residential construction. Lead the craftsmanship on-site—your work will be seen in the final product every day. Stable, full-time role with competitive pay for a true working lead.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in residential construction as a carpenter, lead carpenter, or lead hand (custom homes strongly preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of framing and finish carpentry, with the ability to produce high-quality work consistently.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a small crew on-site—training, task assignment, and accountability.
  • Ability to read plans, take measurements, and execute work with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong jobsite judgment: proactive problem-solving, quality mindset, and the ability to keep work moving.
  • Reliable, professional communication and the ability to work closely with ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead hands-on carpentry work across rough carpentry and finish carpentry on residential construction projects.
  • Act as the on-site lead hand for carpentry activities: plan daily tasks, assign work, and keep the crew productive and aligned with priorities.
  • Read and work from residential plans and specifications to execute framing and finish details accurately.
  • Complete and oversee carpentry scopes such as framing, blocking, trim/finish work, punch-list carpentry, and jobsite problem-solving as issues arise.
  • Coordinate day-to-day with subcontractors and other trades to keep workflow moving and prevent rework (drywall, paint, flooring, cabinets, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
  • Maintain jobsite organization, material staging, and basic inventory awareness to reduce downtime.
  • Support quality control by catching issues early, protecting finished work, and ensuring clean, professional results.
  • Promote and enforce jobsite safety practices, tool safety, and a clean work environment.
  • Communicate progress, constraints, and field needs clearly to the owner and/or project leadership.
