About The Position

The Public Services Department requires a Lead Hand in Facilities. The Lead Hand, Facilities is responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of municipal facilities including oversight of the day-to-day operations, maintenance, general repairs and janitorial tasks. The Lead Hand, Facilities responds to after-hours emergencies and special events as required and will oversee part time facilities staff including scheduling, training, and customer service delivery. This position reports to a Facilities Supervisor.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate should be a graduate of a job-related Community College program or possess equivalent combination of education and experience as required by the department.
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience in arena, dome, and/or swimming pool operations, including HVAC and building systems.
  • General knowledge of equipment and building maintenance required.
  • One of the following requirements (combinations) are required: TSSA Class B Refrigeration Operator AND NSPF Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO); or ORFA Certified Arena Refrigeration Plant Technician (CARPT) AND NSFP Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO); or ORFA Certified Ice Technician (CIT) AND NSFP Certified Pool/Spa Operator; or Certified Aquatic Technician (CAT) AND ORFA Basic Refrigeration
  • A demonstrated knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety Act, Technical Standards and Safety Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act and other applicable legislation and regulations affecting recreation facilities operations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with both internal and external customers.
  • A demonstrated knowledge and experience related to the practices and procedures employed by various building and maintenance trades.
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • A commitment to exceptional customer service and professionalism.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Driver's License Class "G", access to reliable transportation and a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Standard First Aid, CPR C and AED certification would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Co-ordination of day-to-day operations of buildings and equipment in municipal facilities in accordance with all applicable legislation, regulations and corporate and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical support to facilities staff in all areas of facilities operations including troubleshooting and implementation of correction action.
  • Implementation of all facility preventative maintenance/operations programs.
  • To perform regular inspections of buildings and equipment and to maintain accurate records of inspections.
  • To liaise with service contractors and to provide Facilities Supervisor status reports of maintenance and repairs, including assisting with project management.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of facilities staff.
  • Scheduling and supervision of part time facilities operators and maintenance staff.
  • Participation in an on-call roster responding to after hours calls.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Must have full time use of a reliable vehicle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including those specific to the department.
