About The Position

Rock Valley Community Programs provides transitional and supportive housing, addiction and mental health treatment services to adults in the Rock County area. We provide these services to homeless male veterans, clients connected to the criminal justice system, and outpatient care to anyone needing assistance with addiction and/or mental health treatment. Our Lead Food Service Worker (LFSW) helps ensure the smooth daily operation of Residential Services food service by preparing meals, leading kitchen operations during assigned shifts, and assisting the Food Service Supervisor with food safety, sanitation, inventory, and regulatory compliance. This position supervises resident cooking assistants and kitchen staff, promotes resident accountability, supports special events, and helps maintain a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen environment while fostering positive teamwork and communication across the agency.

Requirements

  • Strong judgment, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must complete a TB test, on-site drug screening, and pre-employment physical.
  • Completion of CPR, First Aid, CBRF Fire Safety, and Choking training within 90 days of hire.
  • Employment is contingent upon successfully passing state and federal background checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree from an accredited culinary program or a minimum of three (3) years of comparable food service or commercial cooking experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals in a large-scale kitchen environment.
  • Lead kitchen operations and direct workflow during assigned shifts.
  • Supervise resident cooking assistants and support other kitchen staff.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen while ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, and licensing standards.
  • Assist with food ordering, inventory, stocking, grocery runs, and food bank pickups.
  • Support meal planning and food service for special events, meetings, and agency functions.
  • Promote resident accountability by enforcing program expectations and completing incident reports as needed.
  • Maintain accurate communication through daily email, shift logs, and collaboration with coworkers.
