About The Position
WSP is seeking a Lead Fare Collection Technician/Mechanic to support on-site work in NYC Transit subway stations, focusing on both OMNY technology deployment and legacy fare system support. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience working within NYCT stations on fare gates (turnstiles), ticket vending machines (TVMs), and related systems. The position is contingent upon contract award.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Minimum 11+ years proven experience working in MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) stations.
- Hands-on experience with fare gates / turnstiles.
- Hands-on experience with ticket vending machines (TVMs).
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Must be local to the New York metropolitan area.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with contactless or OMNY-type fare systems.
- Familiarity with account-based ticketing (ABT) systems.
- Familiarity with EMV/contactless payment technology.
- Familiarity with networked device troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting transit modernization or capital programs.
- Technical certifications or relevant training.
Responsibilities
- Oversee, monitor and report on the installation and commissioning of OMNY contactless fare payment devices (tap readers, validators), fare gates/turnstiles integrated with OMNY technology, and ticket vending machines (TVMs) and legacy equipment.
- Assist in ensuring reliable performance testing of contactless and open-payment systems (credit card, mobile wallet).
- Work on-site within active subway station environments.
- Coordinate with NYCT personnel to maintain service continuity and minimize customer disruption.
- Assist in granting access to the NYCT station infrastructure, including power and communication rooms.
- Maintain installation logs, test reports, and field observation records.
- Follow all MTA NYCT safety, operational, and compliance requirements.
- Participate in inspections, audits, and performance tracking.
