About The Position

The Lead Extrusion Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining sheet extrusion machines to produce high-quality products according to specifications. This role ensures consistent production output, monitors equipment performance, and performs quality checks throughout the shift. The position is expected to transition to a different schedule once production is fully operational.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years of extrusion operating experience, preferably in sheet and/or film extrusion
  • Previous manufacturing experience
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to work and lead in a team environment
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Strong safety awareness
  • Ability to visually inspect product quality
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 12 hours
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Repetitive hand and arm movements
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with heat, noise, and moving machinery
  • Ability to wear required PPE
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work at varying heights as needed
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Assign tasks to assistant operators to ensure workflow efficiency
  • Provide guidance and training to new assistant operators
  • Act as the first point of escalation for technical, process, and safety issues
  • Track team productivity
  • Monitor blending of materials
  • Fill in for Shift Supervisor as needed
  • Set up extrusion lines according to production orders and specifications
  • Operate extrusion machines safely and efficiently
  • Adjust machine settings to maintain product quality and minimize waste
  • Monitor product dimensions, appearance, and physical properties
  • Perform quality checks and document results
  • Identify and correct product defects and inconsistencies
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment
  • Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues
  • Report major equipment malfunctions to maintenance personnel
  • Maintain production records, material usage records, and downtime documentation
  • Complete shift reports and communicate effectively with incoming and outgoing operators
  • Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements
  • Promote and coach safe work practices throughout the department
