About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Environmental Planner for our Merrimack, NH office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. This position will support transportation and other infrastructure projects across New Hampshire, with a focus on environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and NEPA documentation. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience managing projects and will thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience supporting environmental regulatory compliance review, impact assessment, and permitting for transportation, resilient infrastructure, hazard mitigation, and other projects
  • Working knowledge of NEPA and applicable state and federal environmental regulations
  • Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience managing projects, tasks, budgets, and schedules
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Previous staff mentorship or oversight experience

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as AICP, CEP, PMP or ability to obtain
  • Experience working with New Hampshire regulatory agencies
  • Role or interest in participation with New England professional associations/boards/societies

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage environmental planning, review, impact assessment, and permitting efforts for transportation, water, and other infrastructure projects
  • Develop and implement permitting strategies to support project delivery, including coordination with federal, state, and local agencies
  • Prepare and oversee environmental documentation under NEPA and related state environmental policy acts
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (transportation, water resources, structural, cultural resources, power and energy, and advisory services) to integrate environmental requirements into project design
  • Serve as a key point of contact for clients and agencies, including NHDOT, FHWA, USACE, NH DES, and NH Fish & Game
  • Support or lead agency coordination, stakeholder engagement, and public outreach activities
  • Provide technical guidance and quality review of reports, applications, and deliverables
  • Mentor and support the development of early- and mid-career staff
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal preparation, scope development, and client relationship management
