Lead Engineer, Transmission Lines
About The Position
Pickett, an ESP Associates company, is a surveying and engineering company serving clients throughout the US and Caribbean. The Lead Engineer provides leadership and senior-level engineering and technical expertise on complex electric transmission design projects for high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) overhead utility systems. The role ensures that the team meets client requirements, quality standards, and schedule deadlines while fostering engagement and valuing team input. It is hands-on and involves managing, preparing, reviewing, and providing guidance on transmission-line design and delivery activities, including line routing, survey coordination, PLS-CADD modeling, structure and foundation design, clearance checks, plan/profile development, material specification and procurement, constructability evaluations, work order packages, permitting, vendor and subcontractor coordination, and construction support.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- 10+ years of related transmission line engineering experience in the electric utility industry.
- Extensive experience using PLS-CADD.
- Extensive experience with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEEE, ASCE, and ACI.
- Extensive experience liaising with substation, environmental, real estate, construction, and maintenance stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of industry standards and methods for engineering, procurement, and construction.
- Strong project management skills and experience.
- Ability to work safely and obey safety regulations.
- Ability to work as a self-starter in an unstructured, varied, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong leadership skills, including coaching team members and providing project direction.
- Ability to collaborate with team members and peers in the electrical utility industry.
- Effective verbal, written, and presentation communication skills for business and technical contexts.
- Must pass a drug screen and background check and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with company driving (MVR) policy.
