About The Position

The Locomotive Engineering team is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of locomotive subsystems that support safety, performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction. In this role, you will work closely with Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Service, Program Management, and cross-functional engineering teams to develop and support Truck (Bogie) subsystem solutions for locomotive applications. You will collaborate with subject matter experts and global engineering teams to deliver innovative and robust mechanical system designs. As the Lead Engineer, you will provide technical ownership of the locomotive Truck (Bogie) subsystem. You will lead design and development activities from concept through validation while ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements. Your technical leadership will help deliver high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that support product performance, operational efficiency, and customer success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience with locomotive trucks, suspension systems, or similar mechanical products.
  • Experience with dynamic simulation and/or FEA analysis.
  • Knowledge of springs, dampers, bushings, and other suspension components.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and supporting subsystem integration.
  • Familiarity with rail industry standards, testing, and validation methods.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of locomotive Truck (Bogie) subsystem components using robust engineering processes and best practices.
  • Capture, analyze, and consolidate system and subsystem requirements.
  • Develop optimized design concepts through structured trade studies and engineering analysis.
  • Identify technical risks early and develop mitigation plans to support successful program execution.
  • Ensure effective integration of Truck subsystem components with locomotive systems and interfaces.
  • Drive compliance with customer requirements, regulatory standards, and Wabtec engineering requirements.
  • Lead component development across New Product Introduction (NPI), requisition, productivity, and reliability improvement programs.
  • Execute engineering projects in accordance with Wabtec product development and engineering processes.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to cross-functional project teams.
  • Support design reviews, validation activities, testing, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and service organizations to support product performance and reliability.
