About The Position

The Senior Components Engineer supports projects in Pasadena, California, performing technical work in electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and optical areas, with particular emphasis on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications. The role interfaces with JPL project and mission assurance personnel to develop reliability engineering requirements and plans for space projects. It leads and performs work related to the selection, procurement, manufacture, use, and testing or screening of electronic components and parts for high-reliability applications. The position provides technical oversight of flight electronic parts tasks, including preparing engineering requirements specifications and drawings and advising project teams on part selection. It assesses reliability, quality, and project risks—including risks related to waivers, deficiencies, failures, and COTS parts—while accounting for cost and schedule constraints. The engineer also supports improvements to development methodologies and processes and works from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions. The position is onsite and offers a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off; some travel may be required. Schedules may change based on position or customer needs. The work is generally in an office environment, but may involve indoor or outdoor work depending on the task. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Bastion employees must pass a national agency check, and some positions require clearance and extensive background verification. A pre-employment drug screen and periodic random drug and alcohol screenings are required.

  • Expert knowledge in at least one of the following areas: RF parts, hybrid parts, magnetics, photonics, VLSI microelectronics, or passive parts, supporting parts development, fabrication, manufacturing, process integration, reliability assessment, and testing or qualification.
  • Experience developing and applying COTS parts in high-reliability projects and systems or subsystems.
  • Extensive understanding and experience in selecting, procuring, manufacturing, using, and testing or screening high-reliability electronic parts for spaceflight applications.
  • Professional experience with EEEE parts and supporting Mil-STDs.
  • Understanding and broad application of advanced principles, theories, concepts, and techniques in electronic parts technologies, with contributions to developing new test and qualification methodologies.
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams, design engineers, line management, and project management.
  • Excellent computer skills, including use of computer-aided engineering tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.
  • Strong teamwork and work ethic, effective verbal and written communication with internal and external customers, and ability to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
  • Organized, with good time-management skills; able to work outside the normal schedule and adjust schedules for peak periods and surge requirements.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Must be able to pass a national agency check; some positions require clearance and extensive background verification.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
