About The Position

Under direction and within the scope of organization policies and guidelines, provides a safe and secure confinement for juveniles, ensuring the development of staff and plans and directs the following duties. All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety- sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety- sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.

Requirements

  • Skill in recognizing underlying causes of social problems; in counseling an individual concerning personal and family problems; and in eliciting pertinent personal information.
  • Knowledge of personal computers; of principles and practices of sociology applicable to juvenile casework; of county and state regulations pertaining to juvenile care; and of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with others; to express both orally and in writing, facts and opinions clearly and concisely; to establish effective interpersonal relationships; to gain respect and cooperation of others; to keep alert and vigilant; to handle stressful situations; and to create a constructive atmosphere for crisis problem solving.
  • May lead employees in the Detention Section.
  • Carries out lead responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid & CPR Certifications
  • Ability to receive certification in Handle with Care
  • Ability to receive Use of Force Certification
  • Medication Administration Training Certification
  • Must be at least 21 years of age- defined by Oklahoma Administrative Code § 377:3-13-43

Responsibilities

  • Assume Unit Shift Supervisor duties in his/her absence.
  • Responsible for the daily leadership of staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Responsible for reviewing, recording and maintaining all written forms, shift logs and incident reports.
  • Assist in the oversight of admissions and releases, when needed.
  • Report shift emergencies or events outside of normal operations to the Administrator on Call and/or Chief of Detention Operations.
  • Provide direction for emergencies or staffing deficits.
  • Subject to recall on a 24-hour basis.
  • Ensure resident discipline and room confinement are consistent with facility policy and procedure.
  • Conduct record checks, admissions, releases, and query to Jolts system.
  • Assist in gathering documentation for oversight standards compliance of regulatory agency requirements or compliance entities.
  • Assist in formal orientation training of new staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
