About The Position

Eaton’s division is currently seeking a Lead Design Lab Test Engineer. The expected annual salary range for this role is $166,629 - $186,200 a year. This role involves developing and implementing test platforms for electrical performance and behavioral evaluation of various power systems including multi-phase UPS's, EV DC fast-chargers, and large energy storage systems. The engineer will create verification and validation test methods, collaborate with global peers, perform test system analysis (Gauge R&R, Uncertainty of Measurement, FMEA), and manage engineering test data. Additionally, the role includes implementing statistical process control, developing user manuals and documentation, and providing training on test platforms. The position is based in Raleigh, NC, with potential for remote work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a directly related field.
  • Five (5) years of LabView or Test Stand test automation in evaluation of electronic circuits or systems.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with integrated development environments (IDEs) and tools: Visual Studio, LabVIEW, and NI MAX (National Instruments Measurement & Automation Explorer).
  • Five (5) years of experience developing automated test equipment (ATE) or test carts for electromechanical systems, including instrument selection, system assembly, and functional testing.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with hardware systems and testing platforms including unit, acceptance, performance and integration testing.
  • Five (5) years of experience in control, test & measurement equipment related to automated software engineering for the verification and validation of electromechanical systems.
  • Four (4) years of experience in software design using object-oriented programming techniques: Actor Framework, DQMH, or LVOOP.
  • Four (4) years of experience in programming in languages such as C, C++, C#, or Python.
  • Four (4) years of experience working with various communication interfaces including Ethernet, RS232, USB, CAN, and GPIB.
  • Four (4) years of experience using relational databases and writing SQL queries.
  • Four (4) years of experience operating test instrumentation such as data acquisition systems, power meters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Four (4) years of experience working within Agile Scrum environments, contributing to iterative development and continuous delivery processes.
  • Two (2) years of experience using cloud platforms: Azure DevOps.
  • Two (2) years of experience managing version control and source code repositories using GitHub.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement test platforms for electrical performance and behavioral evaluation of multi-phase UPS's (Uninterruptible Power Supply) from 8kW to 2.5MW, 150kW to 500kW EV DC fast-chargers and Lithium Ion 1MW and larger energy storage systems.
  • Create verification and validation test methods and processes.
  • Collaborate with local and global peers to align hardware and software tools and test methods.
  • Perform test system Gauge R&R, Uncertainty of Measurement and Failure Modes & Effects Analysis.
  • Establish and maintain engineering test data management processes.
  • Implement test statistical process control on collected test data.
  • Develop end user manuals and related system documentation and provide training for engineering staff on the use and maintenance of test platforms.
