About The Position

Provides dental assistance to complement the dentist’s role of delivering primary dental care services at GraceMed Health Clinic, Inc. This role involves preparing patients for treatment, assisting dentists during procedures, managing patient records, and maintaining dental equipment and supplies. The Lead Dental Assistant also plays a role in patient education, administrative tasks, and supporting other staff members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two years’ previous dental office experience.
  • CPR certification (must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment, including computers, copiers, and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work independently, organize, monitor, and adjust work as necessary to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Able to provide innovative input into the development of the office and its processes.
  • Ability to strongly embrace and personify the mission and values of GraceMed with socio-economic and cultural sensitivity in mind.
  • Must display good verbal and written communication skills, and be able to professionally receive and follow oral instructions.
  • Compassion for patients, family members, and others; along with a nurturing spirit to provide care during stressful situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant vocational program preferred.
  • Previous dental office experience preferred.
  • Prior FQHC or public health clinic experience preferred.
  • Spanish bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the patient for treatment, obtains dental records and provides instruments and materials needed during treatment procedures.
  • Obtains and/or reviews patient and family history in dental record.
  • Chaperones and assists dentists during exams and procedures.
  • Returns or receives patient phone calls during office hours; performs triage of patients by phone or in office, assesses dental needs of patient and coordinates appropriate care or interventions and refers to licensed staff or providers as indicated.
  • Maintains and stocks exam rooms.
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment and instruments.
  • Provides post-treatment and oral health care instruction as requested.
  • Takes impressions for study casts, exposes radiographs, and processes dental x-ray film as directed by the dentist.
  • Maintains clinical equipment and supplies.
  • Performs direct patient care within the limits of his/her training and capabilities when the dentist is unavailable.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Assists in the development and documentation of protocols related to his/her job functions.
  • Provide coverage where and when needed in the absence of staff.
  • Adjust schedules for other staff in the absence of supervisor.
  • Assist supervisor in training of staff as needed.
  • Assist supervisor with orientation of new staff and students as needed.
  • Maintain inventory by routinely checking supplies and placing orders as directed by the supervisors.
