About The Position

The Lead Deck SME serves as the senior advisor for deck seamanship operations, maintenance, and readiness assessments aboard Navy ships and military auxiliaries. Sayres Defense supports critical U.S. Navy shipbuilding and maritime programs, delivering acquisition, engineering, logistics, and waterfront expertise that strengthens fleet readiness and lifecycle sustainment. Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years supervisory deck operations experience.
  • Experience serving as Boatswain or equivalent senior deck leadership position.
  • Extensive experience with Navy deck equipment and systems.
  • Direct operational and maintenance experience on current Navy systems.
  • SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS.

  • 25+ years highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assess deck operations and maintenance programs.
  • Evaluate anchor, mooring, crane, boat handling, and replenishment systems.
  • Conduct readiness inspections and technical reviews.
  • Provide recommendations to improve safety and operational effectiveness.
  • Support fleet readiness initiatives.
